Lincoln-Way Central High School recently hosted its inaugural boys' water polo tournament on April 5, concluding with a commendable 3-1 record and securing second place.
According to the tournament results, the Knights began their campaign with victories over Shepard (18-7), Mt. Carmel (19-9), and Jones (17-2). Their sole defeat occurred in the final match against Schaumburg, ending with a score of 17-12.
Under the leadership of head coach Gary Young, Lincoln-Way Central scored a total of 65 goals while conceding 35 throughout the tournament. Notable performances included Kegan Koester with 23 goals, Tyler Lambert contributing 17 goals, and Jack Mroz adding 7 goals along with 15 steals.
"It was our first annual LWC Boys Water Polo Tournament and it was a success," Young said. "Our kids played hard and took on the challenge of playing more as a team. Finishing second was no small feat. I am extremely proud of my young men."
The event featured five teams: Shepard, Mt. Carmel, Jones, Schaumburg, and host Lincoln-Way Central.
The Knights are set to continue their season at home against Argo on April 7.
