Lincoln-Way Central advanced to the Windy City Classic final on Thursday night with a decisive 6-1 victory over De La Salle. The Knights' comprehensive performance extended their unbeaten streak to 4-0.
According to the match details, senior forward Madi Watt led Lincoln-Way Central with a hat trick and two assists. Senior midfielder Miranda Melde and sophomore Jules Rafacz each contributed a goal and multiple assists. "It feels great," said Watt. "Every single assist came from a good ball. I couldn’t have done it without everyone else."
The Knights took an early lead when Melde scored following a deflection in the box just minutes into the game. Rafacz soon doubled the advantage, finishing off a precise pass from Watt. Melde and Watt added two more goals before halftime, securing a 4-0 lead for Lincoln-Way Central. "Getting that first goal out of the way just feels really good," said Melde, who scored her first of the season.
In the second half, Lincoln-Way Central maintained their pressure. Watt scored her second goal from a Rafacz assist and completed her hat trick after capitalizing on an error by De La Salle's defense. Although De La Salle managed to score late in the game, it was insufficient to challenge Lincoln-Way Central's dominance.
"We’re super proud of the effort," said head coach Sean Fahey. "This group is finding a way to win together, and that’s what matters."
The victory sets up a final match against Andrew High School. "They’ve always been a tough one," said Rafacz. "Everyone just has to show up and give their best." The Knights aim to maintain their strong form in the upcoming championship match.
