Lincoln-Way Central opened its 2025–2026 varsity girls water polo season with a commanding 18–7 non‑conference win over Riverside-Brookfield.
The win marks a strong start for the Knights, who are coming off a dominant previous season. The victory came on the road at Riverside-Brookfield High School on March 17.
Lincoln-Way Central wasted no time establishing control, spreading the scoring across the roster with 15 different players finding the net in the victory. The balanced attack set the tone for a program coming off a dominant 2024–25 campaign. The win moves Lincoln-Way Central to 1–0 overall and a one-game winning streak to start the year. The Knights finished last season 26–7, captured the SouthWest Suburban Conference title at 8–0, and outscored opponents 348–209.
Lincoln-Way Central has controlled the matchup with Riverside-Brookfield in recent years, and Tuesday’s victory fit the pattern. The Knights defeated the Bulldogs 14–2 at home on April 9, 2025, and earned a 14–4 road win on March 12, 2024. This latest result continues that trend, underscoring Lincoln-Way Central’s defensive discipline and offensive depth.
Looking ahead, Lincoln-Way Central will face the Lincoln-Way West Warriors for a home conference game on April 7.
The Knights are looking forward to delivering similar results as their last meeting with West, when they won by a score of 10-6, according to MaxPreps.
Lincoln-Way Central High School had an enrollment of 1,968 students during the 2019-2020 school year and serves grades nine through twelve in New Lenox and Will County, according to Illinois Report Card. Of these students, grade eleven had the highest concentration at 23.5 percent; grade twelve accounted for 23.2 percent; grade ten made up 23.1 percent; and grade nine comprised 21.4 percent of enrollment during that period. According to the Illinois Report Card, Lincoln-Way Central’s student body was composed of approximately 85.6 percent white students, with black students at 1.6 percent, Hispanic students at 9.5 percent, and Asian students at 1.6 percent.
