The Lincoln-Way Central High School girls’ softball team is preparing for a promising season, combining experienced players with new talent.
Junior shortstop Ellie McLanghlin expressed confidence in the team’s chemistry. “Last year, we had really good athletes. We worked hard; I just think we fell short at the end,” she said. “I think this is going to be a really good year. We have a really great group of girls.”
According to sophomore center fielder Mia Degliomini, maintaining a positive mindset is crucial. “We need to have a positive mindset when we have games and be strong when we go against other teams,” she said.
Senior first baseman Kayla Doerre emphasized the importance of setting the tone for the team. “This year we need to focus on being more aggressive and working really hard during practices,” she said. “I want to have a really loud voice on the field and be someone the younger girls can look up to.” She also recalled last year’s sectional win over Lockport, noting, “The last inning walk-off—it was really fun.”
Senior pitcher Lisabella Dimitrijevic aims to lead by example in her final season before joining Florida State University. “Leading by example, trying my best at all times,” she said.
Head coach Jeff Tarala, now in his 13th year with the program, holds high expectations for his team. “We’ve always had solid girls here,” he said. “The goal is to get past where we were last year. I want to see them succeed—these girls mean a lot to me.”
With an emphasis on hard work, unity, and determination, Lincoln-Way Central appears ready for a successful season.
