Lincoln-Way Central’s senior cheerleaders have expressed that their motivation this season is driven by pride in their program, strong team chemistry, and a desire to leave a lasting impact.
Seniors Cassidy Geijer, Kara Fallucca, and Paulina Lopez each described cheerleading as an integral part of their lives. Geijer, who is in her 12th year of cheering, emphasized the importance of the people around her. “Coach is a wonderful person, and the people just make it really fun,” she said. After experiencing a significant injury during her sophomore year, Geijer said that her determination has only intensified. “Not letting that injury take away my love for the sport really drove me,” she said. “I feel like I’ve gotten back to where I was.”
According to Fallucca, she is motivated by her younger self who aspired to be in her current position. “When you’re little, you hope just to be on varsity,” she said. “Now that I’m here, I’m proud of what I’ve worked for.” She also noted that the team’s positive culture has significantly influenced her experience. “Your environment can make or break it, and this has been so positive,” Fallucca added.
Lopez explained that she joined cheerleading almost by accident but now finds it indispensable to her high school experience. “Being on a team and making memories means everything,” she said.
