Lincoln-Way Central’s cross country teams delivered a commendable performance at the 44th Annual Lyons Invitational, achieving top finishes across various levels.
According to the results, senior captain Bryce Counihan led the varsity squad by securing second place overall with a time of 15 minutes and 8 seconds on the 5K course. His performance contributed to the Knights’ third-place finish in the varsity team standings against a field of 23 programs.
In the sophomore race, Ryan Zartler earned recognition with a fourth-place finish in 16:57, placing him among the meet’s Top 10 performers.
The Knights’ freshmen also performed well, finishing third out of 17 teams. Luke Simone claimed the individual title by winning the 2.25-mile race in 11:52, concluding a strong day for Lincoln-Way Central.
Coaches praised the consistency and depth of the program, noting that athletes across all grade levels rose to the challenge against high-level competition. The results provided an early-season confidence boost as Lincoln-Way Central prepares for conference meets in the coming weeks.
