Lincoln-Way Central baseball edged Stagg 4-3 in a conference matchup, holding off a late rally to secure the win.
The game took place April 13 at Lincoln-Way Central High School, where the Knights used early offense and steady pitching to maintain control.
Lincoln-Way Central jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, setting the tone early before adding another run in the fourth to extend the advantage. Stagg responded with a three-run sixth inning to cut the deficit to one, but the Knights held on down the stretch to preserve the win. Tyler Arnold led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs to drive in key runs. Conor McCabe also contributed with a 2-for-4 performance, while Des Gill and Luke Tingley each added a hit to support the attack. The Knights finished with six hits and showed patience at the plate, drawing five walks.
On the mound, Owen Novak earned the win, tossing six innings while allowing three runs, none earned, on four hits with seven strikeouts. Nolan Bartkus and Jackson Hentgen combined in relief to help close out the game.
Lincoln-Way Central’s ability to build an early lead and respond late proved to be the difference in the narrow victory.
