Lincoln-Way Central junior Mia Degliomini enters the new softball season ready to take on a larger leadership role while using her speed to impact games.
After graduating a senior-heavy roster last year, Degliomini said she and teammate Ellie are focused on guiding a younger group both on and off the field.
“I want to step up and be a leader this year,” Degliomini said. “Everyone has different abilities, and we want to use them.”
Known for her quickness, Degliomini has set an ambitious personal goal — breaking the program’s stolen-base record with 93 steals. She has worked extensively on improving her technique and mindset to become a more effective base runner.
“I’ve been working on getting good jumps off the pitcher and having the mindset that I need to get there,” she said.
Team chemistry has also been a major focus during the preseason. Degliomini noted that early bonding activities, including a team dinner, have helped unite players across different grade levels.
“We have such a wide variety of ages, but everyone is getting along really well,” she said.
Off the field, the Knights have built camaraderie through lighter moments as well, including a recent karaoke night that showcased the team’s personalities.
With leadership, speed, and strong team chemistry, Degliomini hopes to help Lincoln-Way Central compete for success throughout the season.
