Lincoln-Way Central senior Macy Gallagher enters her final track and field season as a leader of the Knights’ distance squad, emphasizing consistency, teamwork, and year-round preparation.
Gallagher noted that distance running rarely has a true offseason, transitioning quickly from cross-country into winter and spring training alongside her teammates.
“Running is kind of an all-year sport,” Gallagher said. “After cross-country, you take a short break, and then you’re right back into it.”
She credits the close bond within the distance group as a major factor in motivation and improvement, explaining that training with teammates helps push everyone to perform at a higher level.
“My favorite part of running is definitely the people I’m with,” she said. “Having them there makes PRs so much better.”
As one of several seniors on the team, Gallagher hopes to use her experience to support younger runners who may be adjusting to new events and the demands of high school competition.
“When you’re younger, there’s a lot of apprehension about new experiences,” she said. “I want them to know you can have fun and still perform at a high level.”
Music also plays a role in the team’s routine, with upbeat playlists helping maintain energy during training sessions and races.
With leadership, experience, and strong team chemistry, Gallagher aims to help Lincoln-Way Central build on its success while making a lasting impact in her final season.
