LWC boys volleyball finishes sixth at East Invitational

Lincoln-Way Central boys’ volleyball team secured sixth place in the Gold Division at the Lincoln-Way East Invitational on Saturday, concluding the weekend with a 3-2 record.

According to the tournament results, the Knights (19-11 overall, 2-1 Southwest Suburban Conference) began Friday’s pool play with two victories, defeating Yorkville 25-19, 25-19 and Fishers from Indiana 21-25, 27-25, 15-10. On Saturday, bracket play commenced with a challenging loss to Brother Rice, 15-25, 3-25. The team rebounded with a competitive three-set win over Glenbrook South, finishing 25-18, 10-25, 15-13. The Knights concluded the tournament with a close defeat to Cathedral from Indiana in three sets: 25-15, 24-26, and 13-15.

Senior Dylan Brannigan led his team with an impressive performance of 22 kills and two blocks, earning all-tournament honors. Libero Colin Alvers contributed significantly to the defense with 52 digs. Braeden Fiore also added seven kills along with providing substantial support through his 60 assists and four blocks.

“I’m proud of how the boys played this weekend,” head coach Mary Brown said. “We’re starting to peak at the right time in our season.” According to Brown, Lincoln-Way Central is set to return to action on Tuesday at home against Bradley-Bourbonnais in an important Southwest Suburban Conference matchup.

The Knights are focused on building momentum as they approach postseason play.
