Lincoln-Way’s girls wrestling team captured first place out of 39 teams at the Hawk Invite with a dominant overall performance and a team score of 321.5.
The two-day tournament was held Jan. 17 at the Hawk Invite site, where the team finished nearly 100 points ahead of runner-up Lockport.
Lincoln-Way placed 13 wrestlers on the podium, advanced four athletes to the finals and crowned two individual champions to secure the team title. Zoe Dempsey won the championship at 115 pounds, while Riley Depolo took first at 170 to lead the scoring. Aubrey Barnes finished second at 120, Abby Kunz placed second at 140, and Ella Giertuga earned third at 145.
Additional placers included McKenzie Steinke (fifth at 100), Emmy Hoselton (fourth at 105), Georgia Erhardt (fifth at 105), Grace Spangler (sixth at 110), Caleigh Nicholson (fifth at 125), Liv Clumpner (fourth at 135), Kate Bohms (sixth at 145) and Brianna Palomares (seventh at 190). The depth across the lineup allowed them to build separation throughout the two-day event and secure the championship by a wide margin.
Up next, Lincoln-Way continues through the remainder of the regular season before entering the postseason series.
