The Lincoln-Way Central girls’ badminton team concluded its season with a tie for eighth place at the Southwest Suburban Conference tournament, held on April 31 and May 1. This was followed by another eighth-place finish at the sectional tournament on May 8.

According to the team’s performance, Senior Ava Oostema led the Knights in singles play. At the conference, she defeated Barham of Stagg in straight sets before losing to top-seeded Emma Lasecki of Andrew. At sectionals, Oostema won a thrilling three-game match against Lemont’s Pangiel and later beat Oswego’s Sulake but was eliminated after a hard-fought loss to Mars of Sandburg.

Cami LaTour secured fourth place at No. 4 singles at the conference meet. She defeated Lockport’s Gernimino in three games before falling to Sandburg and Lincoln-Way West.

In doubles competition, Gabby Gatsios and Nada Yasin achieved a first-round win over Homewood-Flossmoor and challenged the top-seeded Lincoln-Way East team to three games in a narrow loss.

Head coach Pohlmann commented on the season’s achievements: “This has been a season of growth and improvement,” he said. “We say goodbye to a great group of seniors and have a solid group of juniors who gained a ton of experience this past season.” The Knights are now looking forward to building on their progress in the 2025 season.
