Lincoln-Way Central’s freshmen and sophomore boys cross country teams showcased impressive performances at the Joe Mortimer Freshmen/Sophomore Invitational.
The event occurred on October 2 at the Tinley Park Park District in Tinley Park, Illinois. Sophomore Ryan Zartler led Lincoln-Way Central with a notable third-place finish, recording a time of 16:06.83 in the three-mile sophomore race. He was closely followed by teammates Jaxson Oldenburg, Colin White, and Russell Welch, who placed 11th, 14th, and 15th respectively, contributing to the Knights’ overall team score.
On the freshmen side, Luke Simone secured third place with a time of 17:04.36. He led a strong group that included Finn Cameron, Logan Klinger, and Daniel Moses. Alec Demma and Jayden West also delivered key finishes in the sophomore race, both completing it in under 18 minutes.
According to event organizers, Lincoln-Way Central’s underclassmen are set to compete next at the SouthWest Suburban Conference Freshmen/Sophomore Championships as they aim to build on their success from Tinley Park.
Last year’s Joe Mortimer Invitational saw the Knights achieve multiple top-20 finishes, maintaining their tradition of excellence.
