Lincoln-Way Central’s boys basketball team is entering the new season with a senior group focused on enhancing both their performance and leadership skills.
According to Alex Panos, one of the four returning players, last season provided them with valuable experience and a clearer understanding of their roles for the upcoming winter. Panos, who is the only returning starter, said his intention to broaden his defensive duties while maintaining a consistent presence on both ends of the court. “I just want to do my job and help the team win,” Panos said. “Maybe lead the team with my effort and communication.”
Micah Evans, another returner who had limited playing time last season while learning from former starting center Logan Ventel, emphasized that physicality will be crucial for his growth. Evans remarked, “We’ll play a lot of teams with height. I have to be able to play tough, get rebounds and give others opportunities.”
Drew Woodburn expressed that his development will stem from gaining confidence with the ball after adjusting to varsity play over the past year. “I wasn’t confident on offense last year,” he said. “The experience will help me tremendously.”
Nolan Morrill, recognized for his defensive intensity, aims to expand his offensive contributions this season. Morrill noted, “I need to step up handling the ball and be more confident. But I just want to compete and have fun with these guys.”
