Lincoln-Way Central’s badminton team secured a 10-5 victory over Stagg High School on Tuesday, April 8. The match took place in front of a home crowd and highlighted the team’s resilience and depth.
The Knights faced a challenge when senior standout Carrie Bolduc, their usual No. 1 singles player, was sidelined due to an elbow injury. Despite this setback, head coach Ryan Pohlmann led the team to adjust and perform effectively.
“I’m proud of how the team responded under pressure,” Pohlmann said. “Everyone had to adjust, and they absolutely rose to the challenge.”
According to Pohlmann, in singles play, the Knights dominated with seven wins. Ava Oostema, Julia McCarty, and Adrianna Villarreal secured victories in the top three spots, demonstrating poise in their elevated roles. Villarreal also partnered with Zoe O’Connor for a win at No. 4 doubles.
The Lincoln-Way Central doubles teams contributed three additional wins to complete the match.
This victory improves Lincoln-Way Central’s record to 2-14. The performance is seen as a turning point as the team aims to finish the season strong. Their next event is Senior Night on April 14 when they will host Addison Trail.
