Lincoln-Way Central’s girls basketball team earned a 46–41 conference victory over Lockport in a tightly contested SouthWest Suburban matchup.
The game was played Jan. 20 at Lockport High School.
The Knights set the tone early with disciplined half-court offense and consistent defensive pressure, allowing them to control the pace through the opening half and carry a narrow lead into the break. Lockport answered in the third quarter with improved ball movement and interior scoring, trimming the margin and creating a back-and-forth finish. Lincoln-Way Central responded by limiting second-chance opportunities, rotating well on the perimeter and forcing contested shots down the stretch to protect the lead. Offensively, the Knights executed in late possessions, valuing the ball and converting key opportunities at the free-throw line to maintain separation in the final minutes.
Senior leadership played a central role for Lincoln-Way Central, with Olivia Gehrke, Aubrey Birmingham, Brooke Katzmann and Scarlett Abramowicz providing experience and stability on both ends of the floor. The group helped guide the offense through half-court sets, controlled tempo in pressure situations and anchored a defensive effort that held the Porters to 41 points.
Up next, Lincoln-Way Central will travel to face Lyons on Jan. 31 in a 3 p.m. matchup.
The last time the Knights and Lyons met, Lincoln-Way Central dropped a 64–39 decision on Feb. 1.
