The Lincoln-Way Central girls’ cross country team concluded a notable season with a 12th-place finish out of 28 teams at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Finals. This result marked the best team performance in the program’s history.
The event was held on November 8 at Detweiller Park.
Junior Mia Forystek led the team with an impressive run, placing 28th overall in 17:18. This time was a personal record by 32 seconds and set a new school record, marking both the fastest State time and the fastest three-mile mark in Lincoln-Way Central history.
According to reports, Brea Counihan followed closely behind, finishing 33rd at 17:24. She recorded a season-best performance and achieved the second-fastest State time ever by a Knight. Counihan’s season was noted for her perseverance after overcoming significant challenges over the past year.
Jillian Davies reportedly surged late to post a personal record of 17:47, breaking 18 minutes for the first time and achieving the fourth-fastest State time in school history. Senior Macy Gallagher ended her career with a personal-best of 18:11, cutting two minutes off her season opener.
Keira Faxel (18:24), Grace Mathis (19:00), and Ava Dughetti completed the Knights’ scoring efforts, contributing to a milestone finish for a program characterized by determination and pride.
