Lincoln-Way Central’s varsity girls softball team faced a challenging match against Lockport Township, ultimately losing 2-0 in 10 innings during the Sectional Championship game on Friday, June 6.
Senior captain and Florida State commit pitcher Lisabella Dimitrijevic delivered an impressive performance, keeping the Porters scoreless through nine innings. Her precise pitching maintained a rare scoreless duel for most of the game.
According to reports, the Knights’ defense displayed resilience throughout the game. Senior infielder Kayla Doerre made a notable catch, while junior outfielder Carly Karales executed timely plays that prevented Lockport from advancing on bases.
Despite their efforts, Lincoln-Way Central’s offense struggled against senior Porter pitcher Kelcie McGraw. A crucial triple by Lockport’s Rheanna Slavicek in the 10th inning led to the decisive runs that secured their victory.
Coach Jeff Tarala commended his team’s determination in what he described as a tough sectional. He referred to the pitching duel as one of the best he has witnessed and expressed optimism about next season, emphasizing the potential of promising young talent.
“The culture here is strong,” Tarala said. “We’ll regroup and come back competitive.” Although the Knights did not win, their tenacity and teamwork left a lasting impression in one of the state’s most competitive sections.
