Lincoln-Way Central earns podium finish at Edwardsville meet

Lincoln-Way Central High School demonstrated its balance and depth on Saturday, September 27, by securing a third-place team finish in a competitive girls swimming and diving meet. The event was marked by notable individual performances.

The Knights accumulated 206 points, trailing only Edwardsville and Naperville Central while surpassing Lane Tech and Sandburg in the team standings. According to the results, Lincoln-Way Central showcased its championship-level competitiveness by earning points across various events, from sprints to distance races and diving.

Hannah Quigley led the team with a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.38 and also secured a runner-up position in the 100 backstroke. Genevieve Dal Ponte contributed significantly with a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke and another runner-up spot in the 50 freestyle. Emma Rapcan added to the team’s success by finishing second in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events.

In relay competitions, Lincoln-Way Central placed second in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, demonstrating their strength as a cohesive unit. Divers also played a crucial role, with Jillian Riebe finishing fifth and Allison Marszalek ninth.

The third-place finish highlighted Lincoln-Way Central’s ability to compete against some of Illinois’ top programs, setting an optimistic tone for the remainder of their season.
