Lincoln-Way Central demonstrated its prowess on Saturday, September 27, by clinching the team championship at a boys cross country invitational with a total of 39 points. The team placed six runners in the top 15 positions.
According to the event results, Bryce Counihan led the Knights by finishing first with a time of 15:08.91, securing the individual title. His performance set a strong pace for Lincoln-Way Central, which maintained control throughout the meet. Cian Scanlon and Mekhai Wright contributed significantly by finishing seventh and eighth with times of 16:03.68 and 16:12.40, respectively. Andrew Nilson and Ronin Borgeson finished in 11th and 12th places, while Ryan Zartler completed the scoring lineup in 15th place.
The collective effort of Lincoln-Way Central’s runners proved insurmountable for their competitors. Lincoln-Way East secured second place with 77 points, followed by Lemont in third with 107 points. Andrew High School scored 123 points to take fourth place, while Richards High School rounded out the top five with 130 points. None of these teams could match Central’s depth at the front.
With this victory marked by a low team score and impressive individual performances, Lincoln-Way Central has reinforced its status as a formidable contender as the championship season approaches.
