The Lincoln-Way Central girls water polo team earned a thrilling 8-7 victory over Lincoln-Way East on April 24, securing its first conference championship in six years.

Senior Angelina Platos led the scoring with four goals, while Sophia Gaier, Molly Olson, Tessa Nakos and Genevieve Dal Ponte each added one goal for the Knights.

Coach Pam Shaughnessy credited the win to a complete team effort and praised her players for their leadership and determination throughout the match.

“I am so proud of the way this team worked together and how everyone is a leader,” Shaughnessy said. “It has been six years since the last conference title. We are hungry for more and hope to finish the season with this same energy.”

The game was tightly contested from start to finish, but Lincoln-Way Central maintained its composure and executed key plays under pressure. The Knights’ defense held strong in the final minutes to preserve the one-goal lead.

With the win, Lincoln-Way Central improved its overall record to 16-4. The Knights will now turn their attention to the Neuqua Valley Tournament, where they hope to continue their strong postseason run.

Shaughnessy said the team’s confidence is growing and emphasized the importance of carrying their momentum into the next round of competition.
