Lincoln-Way Central’s boys cross country team achieved a commendable seventh-place finish out of 41 teams at the Minooka Flight Meet on Saturday. This performance is part of their ongoing efforts to build momentum during the fall season.
The Knights competed against over 350 runners at Detweiller Park, a venue known for hosting the Illinois state championships. Their showing has reinforced their No. 16 ranking in the state. Senior Mekhai Wright led his team with a lifetime-best time of 15 minutes and 29 seconds over three miles, placing him among the top individual finishers and marking one of his fastest races in high school.
According to head coach Taylor, fellow seniors Bryce Counihan and Ronin Borgeson also delivered strong performances, contributing to Central’s top 10 finish in a competitive field. Taylor emphasized that the team focused on execution despite challenging weather conditions. “We focused on the details and stayed cool by adjusting our warm-up,” Taylor said. “I’m proud of how the team handled adversity.”
The Knights are set to return to competition next weekend as they continue their drive toward the postseason.
