Lincoln-Way Central’s boys track and field team delivered a commendable performance at the Lincoln-Way West Invitational on May 2, securing second place overall with a team score of 154.5 points.
According to the event results, the Knights achieved several first-place finishes. Senior Patrick Ciukaj set a personal record in the shot put, while distance runner Jack Galminas claimed victory in the 3,200-meter run with a personal best. Bryce Counihan also captured first place in the 1,600-meter run, setting a new record.
The team excelled in relay events as well. The varsity and sophomore 3,200-meter relay teams both finished first, with notable performances from Ronin Borgeson, Mekhai Wright, Evan Luming, Cian Scanlon, Russell Welch, Domenico DiSalvo, Colin White, and Andrew Nilson. The sophomore 1,600-meter relay team — consisting of Dominic Martinez, Nilson, DiSalvo and Alec Demma — also secured first place.
The Knights competed against six schools: Lincoln-Way West, Lincoln-Way East, Rich Township, Oak Forest, Providence Catholic and De La Salle Institute. Head coach Dustin Waddell expressed pride in the team’s effort and anticipation for building on this momentum at the upcoming meet in Hinsdale.
Waddell said that Lincoln-Way Central’s strong finish at West continues a promising season for the Knights as postseason competition approaches.
