Lincoln-Way Central boys’ soccer team commenced its 2025 season with a victory, overcoming an early setback to defeat Downers Grove North 3-1 at home on Tuesday.
According to the match details, the Trojans initially took the lead by scoring midway through the first half. However, Lincoln-Way Central responded effectively with three consecutive goals to take control of the game. Junior forward Connor Pate was instrumental in this comeback, scoring twice. Senior Aidan Byrne contributed both a goal and an assist, while Chuck Stevens and Arie Brouwer each provided assists, enhancing Central’s offensive momentum as the match progressed.
Head coach David Brown commended his team’s resilience, noting that several players were making their varsity debuts. “The team responded well to going down 1-0 in the first half to tally three unanswered goals,” Brown said. He added that despite having many new faces making their first varsity appearances, they managed to find their rhythm and cohesion as the game went on. “Always nice to win Game 1, but we know we have a long way to go,” Brown said.
The Knights (1-0) are scheduled to play again on Thursday night when they host their crosstown rival at 6:45 p.m.
