Lincoln-Way Central boys’ golf team began its season with a victory on Friday, defeating Oswego High School in the annual Southwest Suburban Conference (SWSC) versus Southwest Prairie Conference (SPC) Challenge, known as the GreenWedge Cup.
According to the match results, the Knights achieved a 2.5-1.5 win in the match play format, marked by notable performances from both underclassmen and veterans. Juniors Brody Wall and Connor Kelch led their team by defeating Oswego’s top duo 6 and 5, securing Lincoln-Way Central’s first point. Seniors Aidan Blum and Chewy Preski contributed another full point with a victory over Oswego’s second team.
The event also featured an interesting subplot: Lincoln-Way Central head coach Ryan Pohlmann competed against his brother, who is at the helm of the Oswego program.
“This is always a fun event for our guys and for the entire conference,” Pohlmann said. “Getting the chance to compete against my brother’s team makes it even more special.”
The SWSC squad ultimately claimed the Cup, surpassing their SPC counterparts in the overall challenge. Due to the match play format, no final stroke totals were recorded.
With this win, Lincoln-Way Central has gained early momentum heading into its fall schedule, establishing a competitive tone for the upcoming season.
