Lincoln-Way Central swimmer Souya Kubota continued a consistent winter season with multiple top finishes at major invitationals, solidifying his position among the Southwest Suburban Conference’s top competitors.
Recent performances came at the Steve Allen Invitational held Jan. 23–24 in Lockport, where Kubota earned a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.99, improving his mark by more than a second. He also placed fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.18, contributing key points for the Knights against a competitive field.
Kubota followed with another strong showing at the Sandburg Invitational in Orland Park on Jan. 16–17. He finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:02.16 and added a sixth-place result in the 200 individual medley, posting a 2:09.13. Earlier in the season, Kubota competed at the Neuqua Valley Varsity Invitational in Naperville in December, swimming the 100 freestyle against a deep invitational lineup.
Kubota currently ranks third overall in the Southwest Suburban Conference standings with 513.00 points, placing him among the conference’s most consistent performers throughout the season.
As postseason competition approaches, Kubota’s versatility across breaststroke and medley events continues to provide Lincoln-Way Central with valuable scoring opportunities moving forward.
