Lincoln-Way Central boys’ soccer team is entering the 2025 season with a focus on overcoming past postseason disappointments.
According to head coach Dave Brown, last year’s sectional semifinal loss to Lockport in penalty kicks has left the team motivated. “We were probably one of the top teams in the area by the end of the year,” Brown said. “We outplayed them but just couldn’t find a goal. It left a sour taste.”
The Knights are returning with a strong senior core and will also rely on younger varsity players. Brown expressed his hope to blend experience with new energy into a unit capable of competing for championships. “With help from these four seniors, we can gel and hit our stride,” he said.
Brown emphasized a “blue-collar” identity for the team, focusing on organized defending and opportunistic offense. “We’re making sure from day one we don’t take plays off,” he added.
Seniors Chuck Stevens, Derrick Rafaez, Connor Pate, and Aidan Byrne are leading the group. Stevens mentioned his readiness to assume more responsibility. “I’m looking forward to showing the new players what varsity is like,” he said.
Central’s objective is clear: to finally break through and achieve a deeper playoff run.
