Lincoln-Way Central’s girls’ water polo team achieved a 7-5 victory over Lane Tech on May 6, continuing their successful season under the guidance of head coach Pam Shaughnessy.
According to Shaughnessy, Sophia Gaier and Angelina Platos each contributed two goals in the win, while Genevieve Dal Ponte, Jaylyn Kucera, and Molly Olson added one goal apiece. Shaughnessy attributed the victory to a collective team effort, highlighting the group’s cohesion and determination as they prepare for postseason play.
“This was a great team win against a tough opponent,” Shaughnessy said. “We’re playing some of the top 15 teams in the state this week to get ready for sectionals, and the girls are really coming together at the right time.”
The victory improved the Knights’ record to 20-5 for the season. With sectionals set to begin next week, the team aims to maintain its momentum. Lincoln-Way Central’s next matchup is scheduled for May 9 against Bremen. As the regular season concludes, the Knights are focused on refining their game and pursuing a deep playoff run.
“This group has been working hard all year,” Shaughnessy said. “They’re looking strong heading into next week.”
