Lincoln-Way Central’s football team is entering the 2025 season with confidence and high expectations following their successful run to the state semifinals last fall.
Head coach David Woodburn reflected on last year’s playoff performance, stating it serves as a foundation for future success. “We made a nice run in the playoffs, got to the semifinals, and had a chance to go to the state championship,” he said. “This year, the expectation is to make another run in November and put the best product on the field.”
According to Woodburn, the team’s achievements are attributed to the collective efforts of players, coaches, and community support. He highlighted that the Knights’ culture begins early in January with activities such as weight training, team-building exercises, and developing mental toughness. “We challenge these guys physically and mentally, and they buy into what we’re doing,” Woodburn said.
Assistant coach Mitch Nowicki emphasized that continuous improvement remains a focal point for the team. “If we keep building and keep believing, we’ll play a year with a lot of confidence,” Nowicki said.
With a strong senior class at the helm, Lincoln-Way Central aims to return to postseason play and compete against top teams in Illinois.
