Lincoln‑Way Central faced a difficult afternoon on May 1, falling 11–0 at home to Lincoln‑Way West in a conference matchup that slipped away early.
West opened the game with a four‑run first inning and continued to apply pressure throughout, adding runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and seventh to complete the shutout. Central, meanwhile, worked to steady itself defensively but couldn’t overcome the early deficit as West’s offense continued to find timely contact.
Despite the scoreline, several Knights delivered strong individual efforts at the plate. Audrey Hennings led the offense with a 2‑for‑3 performance, the only Central player to record multiple hits. Hope Davis, Carly Karales, Mia Degliomini, Jenna Lee, and Erin Byrne each added a hit as Central totaled seven on the day. Hennings also swiped the team’s lone stolen base, continuing to create opportunities with her speed.
In the circle, Jenna Lee and Madelyn Lanigan combined for the outing, with Lanigan making the start and Lee recording the team’s only strikeout. Central’s defense produced 21 putouts and five assists, highlighted by clean work from Bridget Barz and Katie King, who each posted a perfect fielding percentage.
Though the Knights couldn’t slow West’s momentum, the lineup’s contact production and defensive flashes offer building blocks as Central moves deeper into the season.
