The Lincoln-Way Central varsity baseball team concluded their season with a 20-10 record, demonstrating resilience against one of the most challenging schedules in the state.
Head coach Ryan Kutt praised his team’s perseverance throughout the year. “The LWC Knights battled all year long,” Kutt said. “We played one of the toughest schedules in the state, and the boys consistently rose to the challenge.” According to Kutt, two significant strengths for the Knights this spring were their speed and pitching depth, which kept them competitive throughout their games.
While expressing pride in the program’s current trajectory, Kutt noted areas for improvement, particularly in daily preparation. “I think the one area that needs the most improvement is our mentality when we approach practices and games,” he said. “We need better effort on a daily basis from a practice standpoint so we can refine the physical mistakes we’re making in games.”
Senior leaders Filippo Baratta and Liam Arsich were highlighted for their growth and maturity this season. “Both have struggled in the past, but you’d never know it based on how they play,” Kutt said. “They play fast and they play hard. Their efforts this year and in the past are easy to recognize.”
Kutt attributed the team’s positive culture to strong senior leadership and an enthusiastic junior class eager to match their intensity. “Our culture was great,” he said. “We had vocal leaders who also led by example.”
Looking ahead to next season, Kutt emphasized his commitment to advancing the program’s profile and developing well-rounded student-athletes. “My top priority is continuing to help this program progress in the right direction,” he said. “I want to show the state of Illinois how talented the LWC baseball program really is — and that we’re teaching these kids to play the game the right way.” He added that additional coaching staff would support this mission in future years.
