Lincoln-Way Central softball faced a tough challenge Thursday, falling 15-0 to Marist in a nonconference matchup as the Knights worked to find rhythm against a fast-starting opponent.
The game took place April 16 at Marist High School, where Marist built early momentum and controlled the pace from the opening inning.
The RedHawks broke the game open with seven runs in the first inning and added another in the second before extending the lead with a seven-run third. Lincoln-Way Central continued to battle throughout, working to limit further damage and stay composed despite the early deficit.
Annelysia Reina led the defensive effort with five putouts, providing consistency in the field. Hope Davis added multiple assists, while the Knights showed solid positioning across the infield. In the circle, Lauren Podkul and Ava Nemeccombined to record two strikeouts while working through a lineup that produced 13 hits.
Offensively, Lincoln-Way Central was limited to one hit, but Bridget Barz reached base twice with two walks, showing patience at the plate and helping create opportunities. The Knights also drew three walks as a team and looked to generate momentum late.
Lincoln-Way Central will look to regroup and respond in its next matchup as the Knights continue their season.
