The Lincoln-Way Central boys basketball team picked up a 55-45 victory over Lincoln-Way West in a Southwest Suburban Conference matchup, completing a season sweep of the Warriors.
The game was played Jan. 27 at Lincoln-Way West High School, where the Knights used strong second-half defense and steady execution to pull away in a physical, back-and-forth contest.
Lincoln-Way Central began to create separation in the third quarter by controlling the tempo and limiting second-chance opportunities. The Knights forced contested shots on the defensive end and capitalized in transition to build a working margin heading into the fourth. West continued to battle, but Central maintained its composure late, closing out the game with solid ball movement and timely stops to secure the 10-point road win.
The Knights’ balanced team effort was the difference, with contributions coming from both the perimeter and the paint as Central matched West’s physicality and responded to every run. The ability to string together defensive possessions and convert key baskets allowed the Knights to take control in the final minutes.
Up next, Lincoln-Way Central will host Comer in a nonconference matchup on Feb. 9 with a 6:30 p.m. tipoff.
