Knights drops non-conference girls basketball game to Lions

Lincoln-Way Central fell to the Lyons Township High 44–26 in a girls varsity basketball non-conference game.

The game occurred on January 31 at Lyons’ home court. According to reports, the Knights excelled at free throws and three-point shooting, achieving 75% and 19% respectively, compared to the Lions’ 64% and 9%. The rebounding statistics remained close at 32–33; however, turnovers significantly impacted the outcome. Lyons’ defense accumulated 12 steals and six blocks, while Central managed only four steals and no blocks. Furthermore, Lincoln-Way Central struggled with field goals, hitting just 17%, whereas the Lions converted nearly double that rate at 38%, effectively capitalizing on their opportunities.

Lincoln-Way Central is scheduled to play against Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort on Tuesday, February 10. This match presents an opportunity for the Knights to level the series after losing their December encounter with a score of 48–36.

Lincoln-Way Central High School serves grades nine through twelve and had an enrollment of 1,968 students during the 2019-2020 school year. Located in New Lenox within Will County, it reported that grade eleven had the highest concentration of students at 23.5%, followed by grade twelve at 23.2%, grade ten at 23.1%, and grade nine at 21.4%.

According to data from the Illinois Report Card for the same academic year, Lincoln-Way Central High School’s student body was composed of approximately 85.6% white students, with black students making up about 1.6%, Hispanic students accounting for around 9.5%, and Asian students representing roughly 1.6%.
