Knights capture sectional title in historic fashion

Lincoln-Way Central’s boys swimming and diving team delivered a dominant performance to win the IHSA sectional championship, finishing well ahead of the competition.

The sectional meet took place Feb. 21, where the Knights put together one of the strongest team performances in program history.

Lincoln-Way Central won seven events during the meet and qualified swimmers in eight events for the IHSA State Finals. The Knights’ strong showing also included nine school and pool records broken throughout the competition.

Several athletes helped lead the charge for Lincoln-Way Central. Divers Devin Canavan and Leo Kornmuller both qualified for the state meet, adding valuable points to the team total.

In the pool, state qualifiers included Jack Mroz, Tyler Lambert, Dylan Ragland, Dominic DiForti, Souya Kubota, Tyler Hofsommer and Gavin Gress, all contributing to the Knights’ impressive performance.

The sectional championship highlighted the depth and strength of the Lincoln-Way Central roster, as the team finished 73 points ahead of the second-place finisher.

The victory marked one of the most successful seasons in program history and sent a large group of Knights swimmers and divers on to compete at the IHSA State Finals.
