Lincoln-Way Central’s girls’ water polo team secured a 9–7 victory over Maine South on Saturday, enhancing its season record to 10–4.
According to the team’s coach, Pam Shaughnessy, the Knights were led by Genevieve Dal Ponte and Angelina Platos, each scoring three goals. Jaylyn Kucera contributed two goals on her 18th birthday, celebrated with the team during the match. Sophia Gaier added one goal to complete the team’s scoring efforts.
“It was a great team effort,” Shaughnessy said. “The girls played hard from start to finish, and we’re proud of how they executed under pressure.”
The Knights’ defense remained strong in the final quarter, successfully countering a late push by Maine South to secure the win at home. No injuries were reported during the match. Shaughnessy mentioned that the team is focused and ready to carry their momentum into their next game.
Lincoln-Way Central is set to travel to face Neuqua Valley on Monday, April 14. “We’re building on every game,” Shaughnessy said. “This group is showing a lot of heart, and it’s fun to watch them grow together.”
