The girls’ water polo team is entering the season with a focus on intensity, unity, and purpose. Their senior leaders are determined to ensure that their legacy endures.
Senior Emily Ewanic has embraced her leadership role with confidence. “I want to make sure I’m setting a positive example as a role model so they can learn to speak up, how to correct people and just lead the team,” Ewanic said. She also aims for personal growth by improving her offense and honing her shooting skills. To prepare for competitive moments, she emphasizes practicing with intention. “When we scrimmage or practice, I put myself in game-like positions so I can be ready in those moments,” she said.
According to junior Angelina Platos, team unity and mental toughness are crucial. “Our team dynamic is so strong,” she said. “We play to our ability and don’t play down to other teams. Most importantly, we motivate each other.” Platos seeks to enhance her in-game awareness and continue supporting her teammates through both action and mindset.
Coach Shaughnessy praised the team’s high expectations and reputation. “At this point, it’s become a program that has a high standard. When other teams see us, they know we mean business,” she said. Shaughnessy also expressed pride in her graduating seniors: “These four years, they’ve come so far. They’re going to be tough to replace,” she said. “They all lead in such different ways, and I feel they’re passing down a legacy to the younger players.”
With strong leadership, tight chemistry, and a relentless work ethic, the Knights are making every effort count this season.
