Despite the final standings, the Lincoln-Way Central girls track and field team delivered one of its most inspired performances of the season at the highly competitive Minooka Track Invitational on April 17.
Going up against some of the top programs in the state, the Knights didn’t back down. Led by standout efforts in both distance and field events, Lincoln-Way Central proved it belongs in the conversation among elite teams.
Senior Kiera Faxel highlighted the night with a dominant first-place finish in the 3200 meters, showcasing the grit and endurance that has become her trademark. Teammate Jillian Davies followed close behind, capturing second place in the same event and giving the Knights a strong one-two punch.
In the 1600 meters, Mia Forystek turned in a clutch performance to earn second, while Nicole Demma cleared her way to a second-place finish in the high jump.
Head coach Matt Smith praised his team’s competitiveness. “Our girls competed extremely well,” Smith said. “They rose to the occasion and delivered some of their best performances of the season.”
Lincoln-Way Central will return to action April 22 in a triangular meet at Bradley, looking to build on the momentum from Minooka.
