Lincoln-Way Central’s girls track team may not have come away with the win on April 22, but their performance in a non-scored tri-meet against Bradley-Bourbonnais and Stagg proved they are a team on the rise.
Junior Autumn Guzak delivered a standout performance in the field, capturing first place in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 9.75 meters. On the track, distance runner Cassidy Dion impressed with a commanding victory in the 1,600-meter run, clocking a personal-record time of 5 minutes, 54 seconds.
Aubrey Shipman emerged as the heart of the meet for Central, competing in four events and stepping up when her team needed her most. She made her debut in the 100-meter dash (14.66) and pushed through the 300-meter hurdles, finishing fourth in 55.70. When a teammate suffered an injury, Shipman jumped into the 4×200 relay without hesitation, earning athlete of the meet honors from the coaching staff.
Despite facing strong headwinds, Christina Galka and Elena Lambert both notched personal records in the 100-meter dash, a testament to the team’s resilience and work ethic.
Lincoln-Way Central’s determination and depth were on full display, with more opportunities to shine ahead. The team competes next at the Lockport Invitational on Friday.
