Lyndsey Grein’s journey in softball began with uncertainty but ultimately led her to the Pac-12, where she now pitches for the Oregon Ducks. Initially, as an 8-year-old travel player, Grein disliked the sport. However, her older sister Sydney played a pivotal role as both mentor and motivator, encouraging her to give softball another chance.
According to Grein, a 2021 graduate of Lincoln-Way Central High School, her high school experience was instrumental in developing her passion for the game. “Our junior year, we went to state,” she said. “That’s when I figured out how to balance playing for fun and playing to win.”
This foundation of enjoyment became crucial during her college years. “College can be hectic—you can get lost in it,” Grein said. “High school taught me to hang on to the joy.” Currently studying physiology and entrepreneurship, she manages athletics alongside academics, faith, family, and service commitments. The transition to college-level play demanded more self-discipline and purpose from her.
At Oregon, Grein adopts a team-oriented approach. “We’re all team-motivated,” she mentioned. “Our purpose is to be successful.”
She maintains strong ties with her high school classmates and coaches from 2021 who continue to support her warmly. “Always remind yourself why you started,” Grein advised. “You can’t be half-in. Do what you love—and love the process.”
