Lincoln-Way Central girls wrestling captured a sectional championship with a dominant team performance, totaling 140 points to finish comfortably ahead of the field.

The sectional was held Feb. 14 at an IHSA Girls Wrestling Sectional site, where the Knights separated themselves early and maintained control throughout the tournament.

Lincoln-Way Central advanced seven wrestlers to the IHSA Girls State Finals, showcasing depth across multiple weight classes. Zoe Dempsey led the way with an individual sectional championship, continuing a strong postseason run. Riley DePolo and Caleigh Nicholson each earned runner-up finishes to secure state qualification, while Ella Giertuga added a third-place finish to contribute valuable team points. McKenzie Steinke, Emmy Hoselton and Abby Kunz also punched their tickets to state, helping the Knights build a decisive margin over the competition as the tournament progressed.

The collective effort reflected Lincoln-Way Central’s balance of experience and preparation, as consistent performances across the lineup allowed the Knights to outpace the second-place team by 45 points.

Up next, Lincoln-Way Central will compete at the IHSA Girls Individual State Finals scheduled for Feb. 27–28 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.

The sectional title marked one of the program’s most complete postseason performances this season, as the Knights carry strong momentum into the state tournament.
