Lincoln-Way Central baseball defeated Illiana Christian 5-2 in a nonconference matchup, using timely hitting and strong pitching to secure the win.
The game took place April 11 at Lincoln-Way Central High School, where the Knights broke through late to take control.
After a scoreless start, Lincoln-Way Central got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning before adding three more in the fifth to build a 5-1 lead. Illiana Christian managed to push across a pair of runs, but the Knights maintained control behind a steady defensive effort. Noah Sloan led the way on the mound, throwing five innings while allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits with six strikeouts. D. Lovingfoss closed the game with two scoreless innings, striking out two and helping preserve the lead.
At the plate, Conor McCabe delivered a key performance, going 1-for-1 with an RBI, while Shawn Mowry also drove in a run. Luke Tingley and Austin Welch each added a hit, as the Knights capitalized on scoring opportunities despite finishing with four hits.
Lincoln-Way Central’s combination of pitching and timely offense proved to be the difference in the victory.
