Head coach Kari Abrahamsen reflected on last season and outlined the goals for the girls’ bowling program entering the current season. Abrahamsen discussed the team’s senior group and expectations during the team’s media day at Lincoln-Way Central High School.
“We had a great season. Our big rival was East this past year — I feel like we split with them throughout the year, and they’re a lot of fun to play. We had Lily go down to sectionals, and I see her going to state this year,” said Abrahamsen, Head Coach Girls Bowling. “I brought them all in because I started coaching them when they were sophomores, Kaya as a junior, and I just feel this closeness to all five of them. I was a varsity bowler all four years in high school many years ago. A lot has changed — from people having one to three balls to cheering on the court to the uniform. It’s a serious sport. To get to state. All five of these girls are going to bowl a tournament together this year. They already know which tournament they’re bowling — it’s going to be on January 10.”
According to Abrahamsen, Central competed against rival East throughout last season, splitting matchups and using those contests as key measuring points. One Central athlete advanced to sectionals last year, and the team is aiming to take the next step to the state tournament this season.
The current roster features five seniors who have largely been together since freshman year, forming a close-knit group. All five seniors are scheduled to compete together in a tournament on January 10 as part of the team’s push toward state qualification.
