Lincoln‑Way Central senior Jalen Byrd reached a career milestone at the regional competition, recording his 150th win and 100th pin.
The Knights’ wrestling program celebrated the accomplishment on social media. “Continue to show your community what it means to be a knight!” the team posted on Instagram.
Byrd’s career has been marked by resilience, after a hand injury sidelined him for six weeks during his sophomore year, he returned to capture the IWCOA Fresh/Soph State Title. Since then, he has become a two‑time IHSA State Qualifier and placed in the Top 8 at the 3A IHSA State Championships. Byrd wasn’t the only Knight making headlines. He and heavyweight Aiden Hennings both claimed conference championships, with Hennings recording three falls en route to his title. Teammates Eric Hoselton, Dylan Wrobel, and Evan Vogt added depth to the lineup with fourth‑place finishes.
With Byrd’s milestone and multiple podium finishes, Lincoln‑Way Central enters the postseason with confidence. The victories add to a career defined by grit, endurance, and the ability to rise after setbacks—qualities that continue to set the tone for the Knights. Lincoln‑Way Central’s depth and determination have been evident all season, with multiple wrestlers stepping up in key moments.
As the postseason approaches, the Knights look to carry their conference success into regional and state competition, building on the momentum of their champions and placers alike.
