Lincoln-Way Central wrestling closed its postseason with two state medalists as Jalen Byrd finished fourth at 175 pounds and Aiden Hennings earned third place at heavyweight during the IHSA Individual State Finals.
The state tournament took place Feb. 20–21 at State Farm Center in Champaign, where Illinois’ top qualifiers competed through a deep Class 3A bracket to determine the season’s final standings.
Byrd advanced through a challenging 175-pound field to reach the semifinal round, securing a spot on the state podium. The senior battled through multiple tightly contested matches across the championship bracket before finishing fourth overall, capping a strong postseason run against some of the state’s highest-ranked competition.
At heavyweight, Hennings delivered Lincoln-Way Central’s top finish of the weekend. After navigating the championship side of the bracket, he rebounded in the consolation rounds and secured a decisive victory in the third-place match to earn a podium finish. His performance highlighted consistency and resilience throughout the tournament.
The dual medalist performance reflected Lincoln-Way Central’s continued presence among the state’s top wrestling programs, as both competitors concluded their seasons competing on Illinois’ biggest stage against elite statewide competition.
