0Comments

Lincoln-Way Central softball fell to Homewood-Flossmoor 8-6 in a conference matchup, despite a late rally that brought the Knights within striking distance.

The game took place April 13 at Lincoln-Way Central High School, where the Knights mounted a six-run sixth inning before coming up short.

Homewood-Flossmoor built an early lead, scoring two runs in the second, one in the third, and three more in the fourth to take control. The Vikings added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh to extend the advantage. Lincoln-Way Central responded with its biggest surge in the sixth inning, scoring all six of its runs to cut the deficit to 7-6, but was unable to complete the comeback.

Bridget Barz led the offensive effort, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jenna Lee, L. McLaughlin, and Annelysia Reina each added an RBI, while Carly Karales and Olivia Rowell also drove in runs during the sixth-inning rally. The Knights finished with six hits and showed patience at the plate with three walks.

In the circle, Annelysia Reina and Lauren Podkul split time, combining to allow eight runs on 11 hits while working through multiple scoring threats.

Lincoln-Way Central’s late push highlighted its resilience, but Homewood-Flossmoor’s early scoring proved enough to hold on for the win.
