Lincoln-Way Central girls basketball earned a 56-44 victory over Lincoln-Way East in conference action, securing a strong road win against a familiar opponent.
The game was played Feb. 10 at Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort, where the Knights used steady execution to build separation against the Griffins.
Lincoln-Way Central established momentum through defensive pressure and consistent scoring across all four quarters. The Knights controlled key stretches of the second half, limiting Lincoln-Way East’s offensive rhythm while capitalizing on transition opportunities. Patient ball movement and disciplined shot selection allowed Central to extend its lead late as the Griffins worked to close the gap. The Knights’ ability to finish possessions defensively and manage tempo proved critical in securing the double-digit victory on the road.
Senior Aubrey Birmingham helped guide Lincoln-Way Central with veteran leadership, supported by fellow seniors Olivia Gehrke, Brooke Katzmann and Scarlett Abramowicz. Juniors Katie Barrett, Christina Galka, Molly Ryan and Nicole Demma also contributed key minutes as the Knights continued to find balance on both ends of the floor.
Up next, Lincoln-Way Central prepared to face St. Laurence in nonconference play later that week as the Knights continued their late-season schedule.
The win added another chapter to the Lincoln-Way rivalry this season, as Central earned an important conference result against its district opponent.
