Lincoln-Way Central continued its strong start to the season on Saturday, defeating host Marian Catholic 2-0 in a non-league girls volleyball match.
According to the match report, the Knights (13-4) controlled both sets with steady passing and timely hitting to secure their fourth win in five matches. Lincoln-Way Central was in full control of the first set, winning 25-11 by limiting Marian Catholic’s rallies and converting on key points. The second set mirrored the first as the Knights’ balanced attack and consistent serving kept the Spartans on their heels, leading to a 25-16 victory.
Marian Catholic (6-8) attempted a comeback but was unable to sustain a run against a disciplined Central defense. Despite stretches of improved serving and blocking, the Spartans ultimately fell in straight sets.
Lincoln-Way Central now turns its focus to a SouthWest Suburban matchup against crosstown rival Lincoln-Way West (8-10). The Warriors are looking to bounce back after a 2-0 non-league loss to St. Laurence (Burbank) in their last outing.
Marian Catholic will look to regroup on Tuesday, September 23, when it hosts Carmel (12-5) in East Suburban Catholic play. Carmel is coming off a 2-0 non-league win over Lake Forest.
