Lincoln-Way Central varsity softball concluded an impressive 33-1 season, achieving an undefeated 16-0 record in conference play to secure first place.

Head coach Jeff Tarala attributed the team's success to their growth and experience as they prepared for the state series. "We had a very successful regular season," Tarala said. "The growth in all facets of the game has been impressive, and we hope to keep improving through the postseason."

According to Tarala, the team’s pitching staff was a significant strength, featuring three senior pitchers with extensive varsity experience. He also emphasized the importance of seasoned players across the field.

Standout athletes included Lisabella Dimitrijevic, recognized as the reigning Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year, who reached 1,000 career strikeouts this season. Senior Kayla Doerre maintained a near .500 batting average, while junior Ellie McLaughlin excelled as leadoff hitter and shortstop, batting .400 with runners in scoring position.

Tarala praised the strong team culture, noting that players often socialize off the field, fostering unity. The focus now turns to the state series as the team aims to savor the final chapter of this group’s decade-long journey together.
