Knights tie for fourth at SWSC girls track meet

The Lincoln-Way Central girls' track team delivered a commendable performance at the Southwest Suburban Conference (SWSC) Meet on May 8, tying for fourth place among nine participating schools.

According to head coach Matt Smith, the Knights excelled in the distance events held at Lockport High School. They secured first-place finishes in the 800, 1600, and 3200-meter runs, as well as the 4x800-meter relay. Freshmen Ana Dal Ponte and Keira Faxel were notable performers, each earning All-Conference honors in two events.

Dal Ponte won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.67 and was part of the victorious 4x800 relay team alongside Faxel, Mia Forystek, and Jillian Davies. The relay team achieved a time of 9:33.13. Davies also secured second place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.17, while Forystek and Faxel claimed first and second places in the 1600 meters.

In the 3200-meter event, Ava Dughetti won gold with a time of 11:37.18, while Macy Gallagher earned a fifth-place medal. In field events, Nicole Demma placed third in high jump, and Kylie Koehler and Cami Friedl took second and third places in pole vault, respectively.

Smith expressed satisfaction with his team's progress by saying, "The girls have been improving steadily and gave a tremendous effort." He added that they are "excited to carry this momentum into sectionals next Wednesday at Lockport."
